cause, reason
cause指直接导致事情发生的原因，与所发生的事有因果关系。
reason强调指从逻辑推理上得出的结论性原因，不是直接说明起因。
1. cause用作名词的基本意思是“原因,起因”,指产生一种后果的起因,也可指导致某事情发生的人或事物，是可数名词。
cause也可作“理由,缘故”解,是不可数名词。
cause of强调“原因”, cause for强调“理由”。例如:
Nobody knew the cause of the explosion.
谁也不知道爆炸的原因。
You have no cause for complaint.
你没有理由抱怨。
Police are investigating the causes of the explosion.
警方正在调查爆炸的原因。
You have no cause for complaint.
你没有理由抱怨。
World peace is a cause we should all work for.

She is willing to donate money to a worthy cause.

2. reason的基本意思是根据事实作出判断或推理,强调连续的逻辑思考,以某个假设的前提、某个确定的数据或证据开始,作出推论。 reason后常可接动词不定式或for引导的短语或从句作定语,引导从句的why在口语中常省略。
reason作主语时,可接that引导的从句作表语。
That is the reason why I don't like it.
那就是我不喜欢它的原因。
He is able to explain the reason because he was present at that time.
他当时在场,所以他能解释原因。
We have reason to believe that he was murdered.
我们有理由相信他是被谋杀的。
The reason for her absence was that she was ill.
